Bill Birnes

William J. Birnes is a New York Times best-selling author, an editor, and magazine publisher. He has written and edited over twenty-five books and encyclopedias in the fields of human behavior, true crime, current affairs, history, psychology, business, computing, and the paranormal. He has two forthcoming novels at Tor/Forge Books and a nonfiction series in science and technology.

In addition to publishing UFO Magazine,  Birnes is a frequent radio and television talk-show guest, having appeared on "Good Morning America," "Dateline, NBC," "Entertainment Tonight," "Coast to Coast AM," "UFOs in Russia," "USOs, Underwater Submersible Objects," and "Interceptor Files." He appeared in the feature film "Occam's Razor" in 1999 and was featured in a Canadian Broadcasting Company documentary on the O.J. Simpson murder trial in 1995.

As a television producer, Birnes' first cable feature was "When Husbands Cheat," for Lifetime Television with Hearst Entertainment Television. He also produced "Day After Roswell" in 2005 and currently is producing "UFO Road Trip." Among his other books are: Worker in the Light with George Noory (Forge, 2006), Space Wars with William Scott and Michael Coumatos (Forge, 2007), The Grisly Business Unit with Robert Keppel (Academic Press, 2004), The Haunting of the President with Joel Martin (Signet, 2003), The Killer Next Door with Joel Norris (Kensington, 2002), The Star Trek Cookbook with Ethan Phillips (Pocket, 1998), and The Day After Roswell with Philip J. Corso (Pocket, 1997).

A National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, grants judge for the National Endowment for the Arts, and law school graduate, William Birnes received his Ph.D. from New York University in 1974 while he was an Instructor of English at Trenton State College. He completed his post-doctoral work under a Lily Foundation Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania . He started his own publishing and book production company, Shadow Lawn Press, in 1983.

Nancy Hayfield Birnes

Editor-in-chief and co-owner of UFO Magazine, Filament Books cofounder and editorial director, Nancy Hayfield Birnes is a novelist and nonfiction author, book and magazine publisher, and editor in trade, business, professional, reference, and mass market books.

A 1979 Princeton University summa cum laude graduate, she founded Shadow Lawn Press in 1983 to package and agent books, software, audio cassettes, and CD-Rom titles that are generally distributed by publishers under their own trademarks. Currently a director and executive editor of UFO Magazine, she also manages the magazines subscription services and advertising departments.

Nancy was the editorial director of Idea Source Guide, a magazine for the premium industry, from 1972 through 1974. In 1980 she published her first novel, Cleaning House, at Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Cleaning House has been translated into six foreign languages and has been published in nine countries.

As a nonfiction author, Nancy has written two cookbooks: Cheaper and Better (Harper & Row) and Zapcraft (Ten Speed Press), both of which have enjoyed multiple printings and a healthy afterlife on the web. To promote them, Nancy has made television appearances on the CBS "Morning Show," "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee," "People are Talking" in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston; "AM Los Angeles," "AM Northwest," in Portland, and "Kelly & Company" in New York.
